Hey everyone! This is your favorite retrospective loud owl, Screaming Rowlet, bringing you this week’s news roundup from the world of gaming! Think you missed something important in the last few days or just want a refresher? This is where you’ll get it. There’s a lot to cover this week, so let’s get right into it.
Rapid Fire News
Starting off the news today, Fortnite Battle Royale has entered Season 3 and with that a slew of new content through the Season 3 Battle Pass. The tier reward system is now sitting at 100 tiers, 30 more than Season 2, and there are a ton of new cosmetics to be won by completing weekly challenges. The weekly challenges replace the Season 2 daily challenges and they stack up so you’ll always have a bunch of them to work on even if you join mid-season. The Season 3 Battle Pass is on sale for 950 V-Bucks (the in game currency which can be purchased with real money) and also goes alongside the new Battle Bundle, which includes the Battle Pass and an instant unlock of 25 tiers. That is on sale for 2800 V-Bucks, a 40% discount. For full information on how all this works, visit the official Epic Games site.
In Overwatch news, operatives Captain Ana Amari, Lieutenant Reinhardt Wilhelm, Chief Engineer Torbjörn Lindholm, and Private First Class Emre Sarioglu were ambushed on a deployment to Turkey to take care of a pocket of Omnic resistance. Although Lindholm sustained serious injuries, timely intervention from Lt. Wilhelm most likely saved his life, albeit injuring Wilhelm as well. Is this foreshadowing the debut of a Turkish Hero 27 and the return of the Uprising event?
In competitive Overwatch news, Season 8 is coming to an end this week on February 26th at 12am GMT (February 25th at 4pm PST). Season 9 is set to begin three days later on March 1st at 12am GMT (February 28th at 4pm PST). Stay tuned to the official Overwatch forums for more information on the upcoming season!
Destiny 2, a Faction Rally has begun! Report to the Tower to pledge your allegiance to your favorite faction and start earning reputation towards great rewards. This time around, the grand prize will either be a Pulse Rifle from New Monarchy, a different Pulse Rifle from Dead Orbit, or a Scout Rifle from Future War Cult. For more information, visit the official Faction Rally guide.
Additionally, Bungie appears to be exploring alternative customization options in Destiny 2. Assests have recently surfaced on Bungie.net showing emblems with selectable options to flaunt certain achievements, such as killing 1000 Titans in the Crucible, and emblems which track your high scores in particular activities, like the Pyramidion Nightfall. They’re also experimenting with attaching auras to emblems, which some of the greater Destiny community feels is limiting customization options because there are already two separate equipment slots for emblems and auras.
In Monster Hunter World, “The Proving” is fast approaching. If you are Hunter Rank 11 by February 28th, you will face a giant Anjanath for the opportunity to get the PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn hunter gear. Get to hunting and get yourself an awesome looking Aloy armor set! The Aloy armor functions exactly the same way as the recent Ryu armor set, which must be equipped in full and will completely alter your Hunter’s appearance.
In Rainbow Six Siege news, a culmination of teasers and reveals has led to the finalization of Outbreak and Operation Chimera. Operation Chimera is the latest expansion to the massively successful multiplayer game which adds two new operators, Lion and Finka, from Team Rainbow’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) Threat Unit. It also adds the new limited time PvE event Outbreak. Outbreak will see teams of three sent to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico to take on a deadly epidemic that is ravaging the town. Both Operation Chimera and Outbreak are set to launch on March 6th, with Outbreak running until April 3rd.
In Pokemon news, Pokemon Day is February 27th! Join the rest of your fellow trainers in celebrating the legendary monster collecting and battling franchise that has taken the world by storm for over two decades now. Finally, as I’m currently smack dab in the middle of a Kingdom Hearts retrospective, I’d be remiss to not include this bit of insane news coming from the gaming world. A Twitch streamer by the name of Aaroneous Gamer has achieved a feat most would think of as too insane to even attempt, but first some background. Destiny Island in Kingdom Hearts 1 is the tutorial area. Most players would only spend about an hour or two at most here before moving onto the rest of the game. Aaroneous decided he didn’t want to leave until he hit the max level of 100. After 210 hours, 44 minutes, and 36 seconds of grinding, he achieved just that. The clip of him hitting this insane milestone achievement can be seen here.
Betas and Free Shit
The Yakuza 6 demo goes live this week, for anyone wanting a taste of the action before the game goes live on April 17th. As a reminder, any progress made in the demo will carry over to the full game when it releases, so this isn’t just any old demo, it actually will reward you for playing.
In GTA Online news, it’s tax season! The 2018 San Andreas Tax Refund and Rebate special is ongoing. Players who log into the game at least once before February 26th will receive an in game reward of GTA$250k. In addition, any GTA$ spent in game before that day will net you a 10% rebate on each purchase (up to GTA$1M). All rewards will hit your account between February 27th and March 6th.
