News Rush: Now Offering Guided Missile Tours Through the Rubble of Titled Towers

Hey everyone, it’s your favorite retrospective owl Screaming Rowlet and the reigning sparkle queen ShiinaBat, bringing you this week’s news roundup from the world of gaming! Think you missed something important in the last few days or just want a refresher? This is where you’ll get it. There’s a lot to cover this week, so let’s get right into it.

Rapid Fire News

We’ve got a ton of Fortnite news this week, so buckle up! First up, Guided Missiles have come to Battle Royale! No one can hide from you with this outstanding weapon as you rain death and destruction from a safe location. You can even send your best friend on a ride with it for hilarity and profit! Additionally, the newest Limited Time Mode is live. In Sniper Shootout v2, test your aim in long distance battles but don’t get knocked or you’ll die immediately! Check out the official website for all the details.

Over to Fortnite cosmetic news, the new Battle Royale Starter Pack contains the Rogue Agent Outfit, Catalyst Back Bling, and 600 V-Bucks to spend on even more cosmetics! Got some smooth moves? Boogie on video before April 10th and you could win a Disco Cosmetics Pack, V-Bucks, and maybe even the grand prize: your dance immortalized in game! Boogie on over to the official contest page for more information.

Finally, could the notorious Tilted Towers be demolished by a giant meteor? Some players think so! The meteor has been spotted in the skies above the Battle Royale Island and popular speculation is that it’s on a collision course with the Towers. A handful of telescopes have also been added to the map and controllers have been vibrating (oddly, according to Rowlet) at specific points on the map. What could it mean? What does it want? We have so many questions! Hopefully we’ll find out soon, but until then, keep racking up the kills and building those towers as we await our possible doom.

The Overwatch World Cup returns! From the official website: “From today through the end of Competitive Season 9 (April 28), we’ll be tracking the average skill rating (SR) of each country’s top 150 players. Each country’s progress can be tracked on the Overwatch World Cup website. The top 20 countries at the end of this period will be invited to compete in the 2018 Overwatch World Cup.” So if you want to help your country get a spot in the prestigious World Cup in August, then you better get your ass into Competitive and grind that SR! Head to the official OWL website for more information including committees and contestant tryouts.

ATTENTION HEROES! New mission files have been declassified for the annual Uprising event, now known as the Overwatch Archives event. You’ll still be able to earn all the cosmetics from last year alongside brand new ones as well, but there’s rumors brewing of a new PvE mode to go with the event this year (potentially related to the Blackwatch). Prepare yourself for King’s Row Uprising and the Overwatch Archives event, unlocking on April 10th and lasting until April 30th!

Love the Wiggler Mask? Need more amazingly fashionable hats for your collection? Then boot up Monster Hunter: World, because it’s time for event grinding! In the Egg Lovers United (Hunter Rank 11) quest, you’re tasked with killing a giant Kulu-Ya-Ku in an arena to gain special event materials. Gather enough materials and you can craft the pinnacle of fashion: the Kulu-Ya-Ku Mask! Be sure to get yours before the quest ends on April 12th!

Pokemon GO has announced their next Community Day event on April 15th. This time, the focus is on that cutie electric sheep, Mareep! Players will most likely be able to catch a shiny version of the Pokemon, along with ¼ Egg Hatch distances and 3 hour lures. Full event details can be found here.

For you racing fans out there, Gran Turismo Sport has released the 1.15 patch, which includes the new VR mode time trial mode (for when you wanna get motion sickness while racing), even more new cars and new tracks to race them on, new events to test your skills in, and much more! For more details on this big update to the outstanding PS4 racing simulator, check out the official patch notes.

Betas and Free Shit

Don’t forget to pick up your free PlayStation Plus games for March! The Bloodborne and Ratchet & Clank offer ends on April 3rd, and then the next set of free games rolls out! Your free April lineup includes Mad Max and Trackmania Turbo. Mad Max was an unexpectedly fun movie tie in game and Trackmania Turbo is an enjoyable arcade racer. So grab this month’s games and get ready for next month’s too!

In case you missed it the first time around, third person shooter and MMO failure Defiance is coming back for a second try with Defiance 2050. If you’re interested in this game for some reason, you can sign up for the closed beta which starts on April 20th. Have fun? I guess?

The Week in Patch Notes

Bungie has released the “Go Fast” update, or update 1.1.4, for Destiny 2. This changes Nightfall rewards, has Strike repetition reduction, and a few other changes (including monstrous Dawnblades!). Check out the full patch notes right over here!

Fortnite has released version 3.4! The update includes the previously mentioned Guided Missiles, along with “The Three Huskateers” questline in Save The World. They’ve also improved the PC to PS4 crossplay features making it easier to add your friends, and your usual assortment of bug fixes. This patch has presented it’s own bug though, so version 3.4.1 should be out soon to fix those unexpected issues that slipped through the cracks. Full patch notes are available here.

Upcoming Releases

Dragon Quest 11 is finally headed to the West! The latest entry in the historic RPG franchise will hit shelves on September 4th, and will come with new features like Hard Mode and a faster dash to speed up map exploration! Check out the IGN announcement for more information.

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition has received a release date! A port of a beloved last gen title, it’ll finally see the light of day on May 29th for Far Cry 5 Season Pass holders (and for free!) and as a standalone title on June 26th. The sparkliest Boss Monkey, Shiina, seems to have been enjoying her time with the latest title so it might be worth getting picking up the Season Pass for more Far Cry goodness and the batshit crazy DLC that’s planned for the future (Dead Living Zombies, Hours of Darkness, and Lost on Mars). For a taste of the terrible melee controls gameplay, witness the Sparkle Queen herself attempt to chase down and murder a defenseless, yet surprisingly agile, pig for two minutes.

Well, that’s all for this week. We’re going to miss you next week while we’re on break! Shiina’s heading to PAX East and Rowlet is taking a much needed vaction. We’ll return on the spookiest of days, Friday the 13th. As always, let us know your thoughts or if we missed anything in the comments below. Until next time, good luck and good games! See you next time!
